Launching Dreams with STEAM
(Science, Technology, Engineering,
the Arts, and Math) education!
My First Dream Job Was To Be An Astronaut
Hi, my name is Kuri and I'm writing to tell you about a new project that is very close to my heart. My entire life I have always been absolutely fascinated with astronomy and anything having to do with space whatsoever - really any sciences, but mostly space related sciences. I was raised as a Trekkie, and I definitely way passed my dad in "Trekkie" status. I was the "super nerd" of the family, even though we were all very much nerds. But when I was young, we really didn't have access to a lot of information because we didn't have Internet and lived in the middle of nowhere.
One of the things that I had always wanted to do growing up was attend Space Camp. It was a really big deal for me. I never got the chance to do it for many reasons (we'll just say that money is one of them). Because I didn't have access to information, I had no idea how I would be able to do that. I had no idea that there were scholarships available for anything other than attending university or college. But one teenager named Abigail Harrison (also known as Astronaut Abby) has already been a huge influence in promoting STEAM education ("STEAM" being an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). She launched her non-profit organisation "TheMarsGeneration.org" and one big part of this is providing scholarships for eligible teenagers to be able to attend Space Camp!
For this reason, I hope you will consider making a donation to The Mars Generation here on my fundraising page. I hope that this encourages even just one person to donate towards the scholarships, because it means so much to me. Just because I didn't get to go to Space Camp, it doesn't mean that I don't want anyone else to go either.
Thank you for your support, and have a great day!
